Château des Estanilles

The easiest place to buy Château des Estanilles is NOT at the domaine itself (it's a small operation, and it can be hard to find someone to take your money), but at an Elf petrol station in Faugères, next to the D909 and a stone's throw from the Faugères co-operative. You'll enjoy the same low prices as at the domaine.
The Languedoc is replete with boutique vineyards making lovely wines. Under the uncompromising stewardship of vintner Michel Louison, Château des Estanilles has built a reputation for superior Faugères reds. Time to destination: 50 minutes.
From the house in Valros, take the N9 toward Béziers.
On the outskirts of Béziers, as you approach a roundabout (what Americans call a rotary), take the road that bears sharply right and is signposted for Bédarieux/St. Pons.
Shortly you make a turn onto D909, heading for Roujan/ Bédarieux.
19 kilometers up D909, you exit onto D136, toward Lenthéric and Cabrerolles.
Look for the road to take a left-hand turn toward Lenthéric.
Château des Estanilles is in the middle of this tiny village, on your left. When we were last there, a sign in the shape of wine bottle marked the entrance. The Château itself is a newly constructed Roman-style villa. To phone Château des Estanilles from Valros: 04 67 90 29 25
For bicyclists and sightseers: the backcountry roads around Lenthéric offer pleasant, less-frequented rides through handsome, rolling landscapes. For hikers, mountain bikers, and canoers: return to the D909, headed north toward Hérepian. In 20 minutes you'll reach the valley of the Orb. The Orb is a gateway to the Upper Languedoc Regional Nature Park.

Domaine des Estanilles, in the tiny hillside village of Lentheric.
The river itself is a pleasant paddle. Long-distance footpaths - sentiers de Grande Randonnée or GR on the map - traverse the mountains above. A book of hikes for the region can be found at the house in Valros.
